Major A. T. M. Haider

Very few people may know the man wearing this round marked leather Jacket. Along with Arora and Indian officers, he was also present at the surrender ceremony of Niazi that day as a representative of the Liberation War. Birdarpe took Niazi to the surrender stage. He is Major ATM Haider (the next hero Uttam Lieutenant Colonel ATM Haider), Sector 2 Commander. ATM Haider is the heroic son of Kishoreganj. He passed SSC from Ramananda High School & HSC from Gurudayal Government College. He has completed BSC from Islamia College, Lahore. Then he joined in Pakistan Army. He was trained Commando from Pakistan Army.

His outstanding heroism was in the war of liberation. In mid-April, he came to Kishoreganj with Indian commandos and 7/8 troops and consolidated the resistance by destroying the Tarerghat Bridge and the Musulli Railway Bridge on the Kishoreganj-Mymensingh highway. He was also a trainer of the guerrillas of the crack platoon in Dhaka. It was he who created the guerrillas like Rumi, the son of the martyred mother Jahanara Imam.

His sister Dr. Captain Sitara Begum is also a female freedom fighter and one of the two women freedom fighters to receive the title. Dr. Sitara Begum was also awarded the title of Bir Pratik for her special contribution in the 1971 War of Independence of Bangladesh. His grave is in Sholakia area of Kishoreganj.

Humble respect to the forgotten hero.
